A friend is a person with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically one exclusive of sexual or family relations. Most people fail to define and understand what it means to have a friend before telling the whole world this fellow is my friend that fellow is a friend. I quite agree with this classification of friends, which are; friends for a reason, friends for a season and friend for a lifetime.
It is of paramount importance that we know which category our friends fall under. Many have lost their lives prematurely, many have been deceived, and mistakenly judged due to lack of proper understanding of what it means not just to have a friend but to know who their friends are, why they chose these people as their friends and so on.
From experience, I have come to conclude that there are TWO categories of friends namely, Consumptive Friends and Productive Friend. Let us take a detailed look at these two categories...
Who is a consumptive friend?
A consumptive friend is someone who makes you look like a sap. i.e they take advantage of you, instead of standing by you, they stand against you, instead of encouraging you, they are quick to discourage you. I know there are people who are victims of the above picture but let me quickly remind you that, it is up to you to decide on what to do to these set of folks who are wolves in sheep clothing. If you don't lose these friends you might end up being on the losing end. They smile in your presence yet go behind you and castigate you. How long would you continue with these set of charlatans? It's about time to let them go. Time spent with these set of friends are not rewarding, resources put into the friendship does not worth it, to make matters worst you stand to gain nothing positive from them. Do you care to know my word of advice to you? LET THEM GO!
Who is a productive friend?
A productive friend is someone who contributes positively to making your life meaningful. Their presence and advice signify a seed that would germinate and grow into a fruit, they support you when you need them around, they give you positive advice when you are in a state of dilemma. These friends pray with you and pray for you, they correct you when you err. They show empathy, there is a synergy. Time spent with these folks are eternally rewarded, resources put into the friendship pays the dividend later on in life. You wonder why so many successful people still keep these set of friends? well, the reason cannot be far-fetched, it's simply because they were not let down by them, they pushed them to work hard, to have a positive mentality when they are faced with challenges.
When you have a productive friend who was there when everybody was against you, cherish him or her. Do you know my advice on what to do with such a friend? APPRECIATE THEM!
